King.com: Review of the King.com Site

King.com ReviewI enjoy playing games online, but King.com only recently came to my attention. This is a review of my experiences while visiting the site. With hundreds of online games and hundreds of thousands of players from around the globe, King.com promotes itself as a leader in the Internet gaming industry. Read on to find out whether these claims are fact or fiction.

How Does King.com Work?

King.com allows players to compete at a number of online games for fun or prizes. To be eligible for the latter, however, you'll need to become a monthly subscriber. Otherwise, select the game you want to play, get matched up against a player of a similar skill level, and then set out to defeat them.

If you're a registered member who wants to play for money, you can either enter a tournament that awards a prize to the winner, or you can challenge another player to a one-on-one contest and negotiate the amount of cash you'll be playing for. Some of the biggest prizes come when you compete in the progressive jackpot games, as the amount of players influences the payout.

King.com also offers a number of bells and whistles to hook customers and keep them coming back. There's an option to design your own online castle and invite friends over, or you can create your own avatar. Jewels can also be collected in cash or free games, and these can be used as on-site currency to buy things like animated messages and personal guestbooks.

King.com Online Games

King.com has an impressive selection of online games. Some of these are classics in the world of online gaming, while others are relatively new creations. The site does a nice job of blending the two, and anyone landing on the homepage will notice the various categories of games lined up for inspection. Each category has its own section, with a featured game listed at the top. Below that, there's a short list of the most popular online games in that category, as well as information on how many games are included in the gaming genre.

If you click on a category heading ("Puzzle Games," for example), you'll be taken to a page where all available games of that type are listed, as well as a button that can be pressed to begin play. Four games are featured at the top of this page, and each has a different listing. These include: New Game, Hot Game, Most Played, and Royal Cup. The first three were self-explanatory, while the last remained a mystery. No information on the meaning of Royal Cup was readily available, and the people who designed King.com must not have been interested in going into detail. I did notice a dollar value listed under the Royal Cup featured game, so I'm guessing it has to do with how much money can be won (or how much has been paid out within a certain period).

Here are the categories of free online games that you can expect to find at King.com:

Puzzle Games - This category includes online games that call upon players to solve some manner of puzzle. 36 games were available in this category, although I wasn't familiar with any of the titles. I did see a couple that looked like knock-offs of Tetris and Bejeweled.

Action Games - Games in the action category have a faster pace and require a fair amount of hand-eye coordination. Again, I was unfamiliar with the titles, but there were 19 available options. They did offer a pinball game, and I was drawn to one where the player must save falling polar bears by catching them in a bouncy mat.

Strategy Games - These selections are designed to give your brain a challenge, and King.com had 25 titles to choose from. The classic version of Backgammon was available, as well as five versions of Mahjong and a Sudoku variant.

Word Games - The seven games listed in this category revolve around words. While the selection was limited, the available games were different enough to pique my interest (even though I had never heard of them).

Card Games - I was thrilled to come across a category where I had actually heard of some of the games listed. King.com has 19 games in the category, and this included favorites such as Uno, Spider Solitaire, Hearts, Free Cell, and several other versions of Solitaire.

Sports Games - Like most gaming sites I've encountered over the years, King.com only has a handful of sports games. Those searching for online baseball or football games will need to look elsewhere (check our fantasy sports game category), as the selection was limited to soccer, pool, bowling, and darts.

Sponsored Games - I expected to find a number of name-brand games in this section. Instead, I was greeted with 138 titles I'd never heard of. I'm sure some of these are similar to popular video and computer games, but I was disappointed by the lack of famous names. There was plenty of variety, however, with games featuring everything from zombies and pirates to bouncing balls and off-road racers.

The King.com Player's Club

To take advantage of all the features offered by King.com, you'll need to join their Player's Club. This will eliminate ads on the site, allow you to collect bonus items and earn double the jewels, and give you access to deluxe games such as Crescendo Catcher and Pyramid Quest.
