The odds bet in craps is one of only two bets in the casino which have no house edge. The maximum amount you can bet on odds is represented by the casino as a multiple of your original bet. So, a 10X odds craps table allows you to bet 10X your original bet on the odds bet, and a 100X odds craps table allows you to bet 100X your original bet on the odds bet.

When you play craps in a casino, look for the sign at the table that shows the max odds bet. It might say “2X odds,” “3-4-5X odds,” or 5X odds,” but if you’re lucky, it will say “10X odds” or “100X odds.” If you can’t find the sign on the table, it’s okay to ask any of the crew manning the table what the max odds bet is.
Most casinos allow at least 2X odds, but the ones that offer 10X or 100X odds are special.

How to Take Odds in Craps
Taking odds in the casino is the best bet you can make. Craps is a negative expectation game overall, but the odds bet has NO mathematical advantage for the casino. It’s one of only two bets in the casino that pay off at the same odds of winning. (The other is the double-up bet sometimes found on video poker games like Jacks or Better.)
The odds bet might seem complicated, but that’s mostly because it’s one of the only bets on the craps table that isn’t labeled on the betting surface. It’s actually really easy. When you place a pass, don’t pass, come, or don’t come bet, you’re allowed to place an odds bet when the shooter rolls a point.
Your original pass, don’t pass, come, or don’t come bet still pays off at even money if you win.
But the odds bet pays off at the same odds you have of winning.

Taking Odds on the Pass Line Bet (And the Come Bet)
When you’ve taken the pass line bet, and the shooter rolls a point, your money stays in action until the shooter rolls the point total again or rolls a seven. You win the pass line bet if the shooter rolls the point total again before rolling a seven.
When the shooter rolls a point, a pass line bettor can place a second bet — the “free odds” bet — right behind the pass line bet. This bet also pays off if the shooter rolls the point again before rolling a seven
But instead of paying off at even money, it pays off based on the odds of winning the bet.
Here’s an example:
You bet $5 on the pass line. The shooter rolls a four on the come-out roll. The casino offers 2X odds, so you now place an odds bet of $10.
The odds of rolling a four before rolling a seven are 2 to 1, and that’s also the odds that the odds bet will pay off at.
So, if the shooter rolls a four before rolling a seven, you win $5 on your original pass line bet, but you also win $20 on the odds bet. You also get your $15 back.
If the shooter rolls a seven before rolling a four, you lose the $5 pass line bet and the $10 odds bet.
Laying Odds on the Don’t Pass Bet (And the Don’t Come Bet)
You can also “lay odds” when the shooter rolls a point, but only if you placed a don’t pass bet. The same maximum bet applies, but this bet wins if the shooter rolls a seven before rolling the point. It also pays off at the same odds as you have of winning.
But your odds of winning are better.
In the earlier example, you win 2 to 1 on your money on the odds bet if the shooter makes the point before rolling a seven.
When you’re laying odds, you win 1 to 2 on your money on the odds bet if the shooter rolls a seven before making the point.
Here’s an example:
You bet $5 on the don’t pass line, and the shooter rolls a four. You lay odds with that same max of 2X, so you bet $10 on the odds bet.
If the shooter rolls a seven before rolling a four, you win $5 on the don’t pass bet, and you win $5 on the odds bet. You still get your original bets returned to you, too.
But if the shooter rolls a four before rolling a seven, you lose your $5 don’t pass bet along with your $10 odds bet.
The Probabilities and Payoffs for the Odds Bets on Various Points
Here’s a table with the probabilities and payoffs for the odds depending on the point:
| Point Number | Pass Line Odds of Winning | Don't Pass Odds of Winning | Payoff for Taking Odds | Payoff for Laying Odds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 or 10 | 2 to 1 | 1 to 2 | 2 to 1 | 1 to 2 |
| 5 or 9 | 3 to 2 | 2 to 3 | 3 to 2 | 2 to 3 |
| 6 or 8 | 6 to 5 | 5 to 6 | 6 to 5 | 5 to 6 |
Notice how the numbers in the odds of winning and the payout odds are the same?
With all other casino bets, the payout odds are lower than the odds of winning.
What Is “10X Odds in Craps?” And What Is “100X Odds?”
What is 10X odds in craps?
What is 100X odds in craps?
Those are games where you’re allowed to place an odds bet that’s 10X or 100X the size of your original pass, don’t pass, come, or don’t come bet.
For example, at a 10X odds table, if you bet $5 on the pass line, you could place a $50 bet on the odds bet. On a 100X odds table, you could place a $500 odds bet.
Why is this such a great deal for the craps bettor?
It has to do with the cumulative house edge on the money you have in action.
10X Odds Craps – The House Edge
The house edge for the pass line bet in craps is 1.41%, but the house edge for the odds bet is 0%.
Suppose you’re playing at a 10X odds craps table, and you bet $5 on the pass line. The shooter rolls a point number, so you take $50 on the odds bet.
Your expected loss is 1.41% of $5, or a little over 7 cents.
When you get the extra $50 in action on the odds bet, your expected loss is still only 7 cents — but that’s an expected 7 cent loss on $55 worth of action.
This makes the house edge on the total $55 you have in action just 0.18%.
That’s almost as close to 0% as you’re apt to find.
But if you can find a casino offering 100X odds, you can get $505 into action and still only expect to lose 7 cents. That’s a house edge of about 0.02%.
The only catch is that you can’t take the odds bet on every roll of the dice. If the shooter wins on the first roll, you get your winnings and have another come-out roll immediately. Also, if the shooter craps out on the come-out roll, you lose your money without an opportunity to place an odds bet.
10X Craps Odds Strategy
The best strategy for playing craps is easy. It’s a game of random chance. Some might argue about controlled shooting, but I’m skeptical of that concept.
As with any casino game, the best strategy is to play in such a way as to minimize the house edge. Since the best bets in craps are already pass, don’t pass, come, and don’t come, the strategy is simple.
Stick with those four bets (pass, don’t pass, come, and don’t come) and always make the biggest odds bet you can whenever you can.
Michael Bluejay, as always, has interesting things to say about craps strategy, too. I suggest his post about how to win a million dollars and his post about his half-bankroll betting system. Both of those concepts are applicable to craps.
Finding the casinos that allow you to make the biggest odds bets is the first step in that strategy.
Las Vegas Craps with 10X Odds
Which casinos in Las Vegas offer 10X odds or 100X odds craps?
According to my go-to reference on these kinds of things, the Wizard of Vegas, you have several casinos to choose from. Most of them are Downtown, but you can find good craps at the Stratosphere on the Strip, too.
Only two casinos in Las Vegas offer 100X odds craps:
- Casino Royale
- Cromwell (This one has question marks in some of the columns, so I’m not sure about this one.)
The casinos in Las Vegas offering 10X odds include:
- Downtown Grand (I got a message from the marketing team in November that they’ve changed their odds bets to 3X4X5X.)
- El Cortez
- Golden Gate
- Plaza
- Red Rock
- SLS Las Vegas
- Stratosphere
- The D
Also, Main Street Station has craps with 20X odds.
If I’ve left a casino off this list, or if you know of casinos on this list which are no longer offering 10X odds, let me know so I can update this post accordingly.
Online Craps with 10X Odds or 100X Odds (Free or Real Money)
Most online casinos don’t offer 10X odds or 100X odds craps. The most common odds bets available at online casinos are the 3-4-5X craps games.
How does 3-4-5X craps work?
It’s a way for casinos to simplify the payouts — with 3-4-5X odds, the payout is always seven times the amount of the pass line bet. This assumes that you’re taking the maximum odds bet, which, of course, you’re not obligated to do.
The maximum odds bet at a 3-4-5X odds craps table depends on the point:
- If the point is 4 or 10, the max is 3X.
- If the point is 5 or 9, the max is 4X.
- And, if the point is 6 or 8, the max is 5X.
Next Shooter offers a nice comparison of 3-4-5X craps with other versions to offer suggestions as to which is better for which players. It also has an anecdotal history for this betting limit.

Conclusion
10X odds craps and 100X odds craps are the best games in the casino, as far as I’m concerned. Even though I love single deck blackjack and single zero roulette, craps is just more fun.
And getting the house edge that close to 0 is always a thrill.
If I’ve left anything out of this game, please let me know, and I’ll update the post accordingly.
