The 6 Best Slot Machines at Mystic Lake (Best Slots in Minnesota)

cpluaIn this post, I list the best slot machines to play at Mystic Lake in 2022.

Here’s my list of the 6 best slots you can play in 2022 at Mystic Lake Casino Hotel:

1. 100 Wolves
2. Double Lucky 7s
3. Wild Wild Buffalo
4. Lucky Honeycomb Twin Fever
5. Good Fortune
6. DBL Diamond

Mystic Lake Casino Hotel is the largest casino in Minnesota. It’s in Prior Lake, an exurb of Minneapolis. Mystic Lake is about a half hour’s drive from downtown Minneapolis.

All casino-style gambling in Minnesota is part of a tribal compact. 19 Indian casinos exist in the state. Two new casino projects are underway.

Tribal groups aren’t required by law to report slot machine statistics. They don’t have to report figures for table games, either. The only restrictions in place are minimum and maximum theoretical payouts.

In Minnesota, slot machines have to return between 80 and 95% of bets to players. Video poker and video versions of table games have to return between 83% and 98% of bets to players.

Below, I review the best slot machines to play at Mystic Lake. In 2022, Mystic Lake is set to continue its reign as the most-popular place to gamble in all of Minnesota. This post will guide you toward the best slot game choices in the state.

IGT’s 100 Wolves is a Popular Penny Slot at Mystic Lake

100 Wolves is a 5 reel slot with 4 rows of slot machine symbols per reel. It has a wild symbol and scatter symbol. The game is listed as low-to-medium volatility.

The theme is wildlife, specifically wolves. All of the symbols are wolf- or wilderness-oriented, except for the typical playing card value symbols.

Like most of the games at Mystic Lake, 100 Wolves is multi-denomination. That means you can set your own credit value before you play. You can bet $0.01, $0.05, $0.10, or $0.25 per credit.

(Get the scoop on dollar vs. penny slots here.)

A max bet on 100 Wolves is 8 credits. That means you can play 100 Wolves as a penny slot for just $0.08 per spin.

100 Wolves features stacked wilds. That’s a fancy way of saying that wild symbols usually come in groups of three.

The game’s scatter symbol is the 100 Wolves logo. If you land 3 on an active line, you’ll activate the Free Spins Bonus round. The free spins you win (up to 15) can be retriggered indefinitely.

You can find Mystic Lakes’ 100 Wolves machines near the center of the main gaming floor. They’re directly across from the Drinx Bar, near the pull tabs section.

Progressive Jackpot Slots like Double Lucky 7s are Mystic Lake Mainstays

On my last trip to Mystic Lake, I discovered Double Lucky 7s by accident. I won a comp’d meal at the Mystic Steakhouse after playing blackjack all night. As I’m checking out the menu, I can’t help but notice a loud group of people sitting and playing slots.

Long story short, it was a group of retiree-age girlfriends who’d known each other for decades and they were all seemingly obsessed with this $0.25 slot called Double Lucky 7s.

At first, I didn’t understand the appeal. It’s a clunky old classic slot with a single pay line and one row of symbols. It looked to me like something out of Rain Man-era Las Vegas.

Then it hit me. This was the kind of game that was popular when these women were younger. They were using the game as a kind of escape.

Look, there’s a lot to be said for simplicity. Double Lucky 7s is the kind of slot you literally don’t have to pay any attention to. Yeah, it has a progressive jackpot, but it’s not likely that you’ll hit it, so you don’t even have to worry about it.

Mystic Lake has a few rows of games like this all in the same place. It’s just outside the steakhouse. If you’re at the lobby bar ordering a drink and you look to your left, you’ll see them.

Oh, and they don’t all cost $0.25 per credit. I saw a few penny games, some nickel games, and a few others sprinkled around.

Aristocrat’s Wild Wild Buffalo Is Popular at Mystic Lake (and Everywhere Else)

Wild Wild Buffalo is a 576 Ways to Win slot. It’s part of Aristocrat’s popular Buffalo series of slot games.

Wild Wild Buffalo is on the expensive side, especially for gamblers who come to Mystic Lake looking for low-cost slots. To make yourself eligible for the progressive prizes, you have to bet at least 300 credits per spin. That’s $3 per spin if you’re betting a penny per credit.

Really, the true max bet on Wild Wild Buffalo is 750 credits per spin. That’s $7.50 per spin at a $0.01 per credit denomination.

The reel layout is unusual. It’s a five reel game with different numbers of symbols on each reel. The first two reels have three symbols. The next three reels have four symbols.

This game is all about the wild symbol bonus round. It pays out instant credit prizes and can be retriggered.

You’ll find Aristocrat’s Buffalo series in casinos all over the country. They’re popular because they’re familiar and easy to play.

You’ll find Wild Wild Buffalo at the extreme southern tip of the playing floor. It’s within a few minutes’ walk of both the Dakota Bar and the cashier that’s near the smoking section.

Mystic Lake Slots Players Love Lucky Honeycomb Twin Fever – an Inexpensive Bonus Slot

Lucky Honeycomb Twin Fever is popular at Mystic Lake to the point where I had trouble finding a free machine. You’ll find a bunch of them between Club M and the Promenade Bar.

This is a 5 reel slot with differing numbers of symbols on each reel. The first reel has 3 symbols, the middle 3 reels each have 4, and the last reel also has 3 symbols. It’s shaped vaguely like a honeycomb.

There’s no progressive jackpot or huge payout possible. It’s a low volatility game that’s built around its bonus features.

Basically, Lucky Honeycomb Twin Fever is all about free spins. There’s the game’s dragon symbol that activates the Dragon Stack free spins game. Then there’s a bonus scatter symbol (shaped like an ancient pagoda) that can trigger 10 free spins.

Mystic Lake’s version of Lucky Honeycomb Twin Fever is fixed at 40 pay lines. That means you have to bet on all 40 on each spin. You can alter the size of your bet by betting more coins, but technically you can “bet max” at just $.80 per spin.

Penny Slots with High Max Bets (like Giant’s Gold) Are Popular at Mystic Lake

Giant’s Gold by WMS Gaming is popular at Mystic Lake among slots players who don’t mind dropping several dollars per spin. The last time I was there, I saw Giant’s Gold machines in two places.

One of them was the High Limit section right behind the Promenade Bar. It’s set at $0.10 per credit.

If that doesn’t sound like a high-limit slot, consider that at $0.10 per credit you’re betting $5 a spin for a max bet. The math is funny because on Giant’s Gold you only need to bet on every two pay lines. Technically, you’re betting as though there are only 50 pay lines.

I found another version of the game with a more reasonable cost per spin, with credits fixed at $0.01. That’s just $0.50 per spin at a max bet of 100 lines. It’s closer to the Dakota Bar, just behind the Pull Tabs section.

The game itself is a typical modern video slot. The theme is Jack & the Beanstalk. There’s a scatter symbol that pays out up to 100 free spins.

Mystic Lake’s DBL Diamond is a Typical Midwest High-Limit Slot

By far the most popular game in the Mystic Lake High Limit area is DBL Diamond. I figure that’s because it has the highest payouts of any high-limit slot onsite. It’s also available in a wide range of denominations, from $0.25 to $100 per credit.

Imagine someone plucked a piece of classic Las Vegas out of Nevada and set it up in Minnesota.

(If you like high-limit slots, be sure to read my takedown of some popular high-stakes slots strategies.)

You’ll find All of Mystic Lake’s DBL Diamond machines in the back corner of the high limit area.

You can play at $0.25, $1, $5, $25, and $100 per credit.

The goal of the game is to land three of the game’s Double Diamond logo symbol for a 1000x payout. At $100 per credit, that’s a $100,000 hand pay.

Most high-limit slots are simple, and DBL Diamond is no exception. There are no bonus games, no wild symbols, no scatter symbols, no progressive jackpot – essentially no special features at all. You play slots like DBL Diamond for the high-stakes slot action, not for an engaging storyline.
