I always suggest practicing casino games free before deciding what are the best slot machines to play at Winstar (or any other casino). That way you’ll have a point of comparison. Here are 3 places where you can play for free (or for money online):
- Slots.lv – Get $7500 to play with with their 300% first time deposit bonus.
- Super Slots – $6000 in free money with their 250% new player bonus.
- BetUS Casino – 150% signup bonus up to $1500, plus they offer sports betting.

(Update — I also recently listed some recommended slot machines to play at Choctaw Casino, too.)
You can’t bet on sports at the Winstar yet, but my guess is that’s coming. When you can, you’ll find my post about how to win at sports betting with only $20 in your pocket helpful.
Based on my visits and the experiences of my friends who’ve gambled at Winstar Casino, I think these are the 7 best slot machines you can play at Winstar Casino:
Table of Contents

- Flat top games
- Progressive games
A flat top slot machine game has a fixed-size jackpot. It doesn’t grow over time. It’s just a number of coins you win as your top prize.
It’s common for a flat top jackpot to be between 1000 and 3000 coins, but it can vary within and outside that range.
A progressive slot machine game has a jackpot that grows over time. A tiny percentage of each wager goes to fuel this jackpot. Progressive jackpots can be standalone machines, locally-networked machines within a casino, or networked throughout multiple casinos.
That tiny percentage that causes the jackpot to grow is taken from your payback percentage, though. So your odds are worse with a progressive jackpot right away.
Also, the odds of hitting the jackpot drop according to the size of the jackpot. The bigger the prize, the harder it is to hit.

The odds of hitting a jackpot on a slot machine can vary from as little as 1 in 33,000 to as high as 1 in 50 million. (See Michael Bluejay’s page about slot machine jackpots.)
To hit the jackpot on one of those flat top machines, you’d need to play 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, for a whole week — on average. That’s a lot.
But contrast that with how long it will take to hit a large progressive jackpot of say $10 million. You’d have to play for 30 years to hit that jackpot.
So, obviously, the best slot machines to play at the Winstar are the flat top games.
High Stake Slot Machines Are Also the Best Slot Machines to Play at Winstar
I called a friend of mine who visits the Winstar weekly to play slot machines and asked him which slot machine games were best. He told me that he only saw any kind of winnings on the higher denomination games — the $1 machines and up.
This corresponds to what I know about slot machine paybacks in general. The casinos in Oklahoma aren’t required to publish their return to player percentages, but there’s no reason to believe that they don’t follow some of the same patterns you’d find at casinos in other gambling destinations like Las Vegas or Reno.
What can we learn from payback percentages there?
If you look at the payback percentages for slot machines across Nevada, you’ll see a clear correspondence between the denomination and the payback percentage.
The penny slot machines there average a payback percentage of about 89%. The quarter slots have a higher return — 91%.
But the dollar slots are the games with the highest return of about 93%.
I don’t think Winstar’s slot machines have payback percentages in that range, but I don’t doubt that their higher stakes games have higher payback percentages than their lower stakes games.
So, clearly, the best slot machines to play at the Winstar are the $1+ games with flat top jackpots.
The Red Screen Slots from VGT Are the Most Fun Slots to Play at Winstar
My friend also told me that the red screen slots from VGT are the most fun. He even shared a YouTube channel with me, Red Screen Ninjas, where fans of red screen slot machines posts videos of their results playing these VGT games. The other casino in Thackerville, Border Casino, mostly has VGT slots, too.
I’ve played these games myself, and I’ll admit, they were a lot of fun. I was often surprised at how often I’d hit the red screen bonus, too. The games had a kind of low-tech appeal, too.
Here’s how red screen slots from VGT work:
The red screen is just a bonus game that consists of free spins. You trigger it at random — about 20% of the time — when you hit a winning spin. When you hit a losing spin, you have no chance of triggering the red screen bonus.
During the red screen bonus, you get up to 5 extra winning spins on top of your previous win.
I don’t have anything but anecdotal data about the red screen percentage, but I can extrapolate how often you’ll hit a red screen bonus easily:
If you make 500 spins per hour on a VGT game with a 25% hit ratio, you’ll see 125 winning spins per hour. If 20% of them are red screen bonus spins, you’ll see 25 red screen bonuses in an hour.
You can’t win these more often using any specific strategy, whether it’s named after a guy named “Hal” or whatever, but you will have fun playing red screen slots if you have a big enough bankroll to stay in action a while.
Here are the names of some red screen slot machines at the Winstar to look for:
- Crazy Cherry
- Hot Red Ruby
- Mr. Moneybags
And that’s just for starters.
The easiest way to tell which games are red screen games is to watch. When you see a game where the top half of the screen turns red once in a while, you’ve found a red screen slot machine game.
Mr. Moneybags Slot Machines Are Popular for a Reason
Mr. Moneybags slot machines have been popular at the Winstar and other casinos for 20 years now. Like the other games from VGT (Video Gaming Technologies), Mr. Moneybags is a bingo-based game. Instead of a random number generator inside the machine, the game simulates a big bingo game from a centralized computer within the casino.
This makes Mr. Moneybags a Class II game. It’s the most popular game in their selection, too.
It’s an easy game to play — most versions only have one payline across the middle. And remember how I mentioned the red screen slots from VGT earlier? Mr. Moneybags is an example of this kind of game.
The game features wild symbols (the logo) and scatter symbols (the cherries). When you get the cherry, it triggers the red screen bonus games.
Other than the logo, most of the symbols on Mr. Moneybags are familiar to slots gamblers — they include bars and sevens.
You can play Mr. Moneybags for as little as a quarter per spin, but it’s available in denominations up to $25 per spin.
The higher-stakes Mr. Moneybags seem to have a higher hit ratio and payback percentage.
The Big Lebowski Slot Machines Were Great
I’m a huge fan of the movie The Big Lebowski, so I’m probably predisposed to like this game. Even so, I won a few hundred dollars playing The Big Lebowski slots, and I had big fun doing it.
The symbols on the game included the major characters from the movie, including Donny, The Dude, Maude, and Walter. It’s a huge game where you play seated in front of a huge curved screen that towers above you.
The game also features music from film, including “The Man in Me” and “I Just Dropped in to See What Condition My Condition Was In.”
I triggered both bonus games multiple times during my session on this game. The players around me also seemed to be hitting the bonus games regularly, too. The game also has wild symbols and multiplier symbols.
The Big Lebowski slot machines have a progressive jackpot, but it’s not a big one. I think it’s a good exception to the “no progressives” rule of thumb I suggested earlier.
The 9-Liners Are Also Among the Best Slot Machines to Play at Winstar
The other suggestion I got from my friend the Oklahoma slot machine gambler was to find the 9-liners. These are also games from VGT, and they’re called 9-liners because they have 9 paylines.
These are also VGT games with the red screen bonus. They usually have spinning reels and are available in a wide variety of flavors.
Give the Video Poker Machines at Winstar a Chance, Too
I was surprised to learn that the Winstar Casino offers full pay Jacks or Better video poker games. They only have these available for $5 per play, so you need to be a high roller to enjoy the 99.54% payback percentage on this game. You also need to play for max credits per line, or $25 per hand.
And you need to have mastered the strategy for the game.
That’s not the only video poker game at Winstar worth looking at, either.
You can find Bonus Poker games in the $1 denomination available in bartop versions at a couple of the bars in the casino. Played with appropriate strategy, these Bonus Poker games have a return to player of 99.17%.
You won’t find a better payback percentage than this with any of the spinning reels slot machines. Also, you’ll hit a jackpot in video poker about once out of every 40,000 hands. That sounds awful, but go back to the section on flat top versus progressive games and compare the odds of winning.
Unless you just hate video poker, you should give these a try. If you want to play for lower stakes, you can find plenty of less favorable pay tables on the video poker machines at the Winstar. Even the worst of these pay tables has a higher payback percentage than the average slot machine game there, though.
With the so-called ante in place, even the single deck blackjack games at the Winstar have a higher house edge than the video poker games.
Conclusion
What are the best slot machines to play at Winstar Casino?
The obvious answer is to play the ones that you enjoy the most. If you’re really interested in return to player figures, you can calculate those numbers while you play.
Most of the slot machine gamblers I know who visit Winstar think the best slot machines are the red screen slots, the 9-liners, and Mr. Moneybags.

Hi, does Winstar have the coin push games? My wife and I have never been there and are very interested in visiting. We’ve been watching the quarter coin pusher game and looks like it’d be a lot of fun. I would appreciate it if you could get back to me.
Thank you,

Winstar does not have coin push games, as far as I know. I’ve never seen them, and I don’t know anyone else who has, either.

Carlos says
Yes indeed but don’t be fooled when you collect a $250 or $2000 chip, as it’s upto that amount and generally not much. It is still an okay game to play.
